CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Charlottesville Tom Sox snapped a two-game losing streak on Tuesday night, defeating the Harrisonburg Turks by a final score of 5-2. It marked their third straight win over Harrisonburg.
A trio of pitchers spearheaded a stout defensive performance for the Sox. Maddison Furman (VCU) and Covenant School alum Jake Haney (William & Mary) combined for eight innings of work, two earned runs, and ten total strikeouts. Alaska Abney (Coastal Carolina) came in for the close, shutting down any hope for the Turks in his one inning of work.
Following an early run from the Turks in the top of the first, the Tom Sox quickly erased their two-run deficit. A three-run third inning gave them the lead after RBI’s from Ramon Garza (Cornell) and Thomas Francisco (East Carolina) as well as a Harrisonburg error.
From there, Charlottesville never looked back, tacking on two more in the 4th after an RBI single from newcomer Alex Fedje-Johnson (Davidson) and an RBI single from Francisco that extended his hit streak to 14 games. He finished the game with two RBIs on two at-bats.
The Tom Sox take the field again Wednesday night in Purcellville against the Cannons. The first pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m.
