The Charlottesville Tom Sox defeated the Harrisonburg Turks 6-5 on Saturday night. This game marked the middle of the Tom Sox season, as it was the 21st game. Halfway through the season, the Tom Sox are 13-8 and in second place in the south division behind the Waynesboro Generals.

Charlottesville came back from being down 5-1 to win the game, After the Turks scored 3 in the third and then 2 more in the fourth off of Carden Mellown (Huntingdon), the Tom Sox then mirrored that offense and scored 4 in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead.

The Tom Sox were the first to score though, as Kirby McMullen (Florida) scored from second on a wild pitch by Alex Rodriguez (Wingate) in the first. The Turks tacked on their first 3 runs off a 3-run home run by RJ Schreck (Duke).

In the fourth inning, the Turks added 2 more runs off a double by Travis Reifsnider (JMU). Aaron Levy (Ohio) and Immanuel Wilder (Western Carolina) scored.

Following this action, the Tom Sox reciprocated it in the bottom of the fourth. Dan Harwood (Wooster) hit a leadoff double and then Christian Hlinka (UVA) hit a 2-run single to make it 3-5. Hlinka then scored after reaching third on an error. With two outs, Gregory Ryan Jr. (VCU) hit a solo home run to tie the game at 5-5.
Jack Friedman (Georgia Tech) went in to pitch the fifth and loaded the bases, but got out of it without a run given up. He then went on to pitch 2.1 more scoreless frames.

The Tom Sox continued their impressive offense when Kirby McMullen (Florida) hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the fifth. Thomas Francisco (ECU) then hit a single and McMullen advanced to third. He scored off of a sac fly from Trey McDyre (Liberty) to give the Tom Sox a 6-5 lead.

Antonio Balducci (Richmond) pitched the last two outs of the eighth inning for the Tom Sox and gave up no hits, no runs, and one walk. He then pitched the ninth and gave up only one hit, securing the win for the ‘Sox.

The Tom Sox will be on the road tomorrow (June 30) in Front Royal to face the 7-17 Cardinals at 7 PM. They return home Monday (July 1) for a possible lead-clinching game against the Waynesboro Generals.
