CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Charlottesville Tom Sox scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally past the Staunton Braves 9-8 on Friday night.

The win clinches the season series for the Tom Sox over the Braves (4-2).

The Tom Sox (16-10) sent nine runners to the plate in the ninth, culminating with a go-ahead RBI-single by Luke Coker (Elon). Dan Harwood (Wooster) scored the winning run off of Coker’s hit. Charlottesville tied the game thanks to a three-run double from Walker Imwalle (Davidson). The three-RBI blast scored Cayman Richardson, Thomas Francisco, and Trey McDyre.

Charlottesville out-hit Staunton 12-11 on the night, with five of those hits coming in the ninth inning.

Friday’s game was a great night for the two University of Virginia products on the Tom Sox. Richardson led Charlottesville with three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI single in the second inning. Christian Hlinka had two hits, scored a run, and brought in another.

Francisco extended his hitting-streak to 12 games, and finished Friday’s contest with two hits, two RBI, and a pair of runs scored.

The Tom Sox raced out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and added another run in the second. Charlottesville held the advantage until the top of the fifth, when the Braves piled on seven of their eight runs scored.

In addition to his clutch double in the top of the ninth inning, Walker also earned the win after pitching 0.2 scoreless innings in the top of the frame.

Charlottesville will look to avenge its July 4 loss to Waynesboro on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Kate Collins Field.
