STAUNTON, Va. – The Charlottesville Tom Sox were defeated by the Staunton Braves 14-6 at John Moxie Stadium Saturday night.
The Tom Sox struck first in the top of the first inning off of a Thomas Francisco (East Carolina) single that brought home Dan Harwood (Wooster).
The Braves responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 1-1.
Staunton went on to score seven more runs to take an 8-1 lead after four innings of play. A six-run third inning propelled the scoring for the Braves and was marked by a three-run home run by Andrew Czech (Walsh).
Charlottesville started to rally in the seventh inning, scoring two runs after Cayman Richardson (Virginia) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Harwood hit an RBI single. The rally was cut short at 8-3 after Francisco lined into a double play with the bases loaded.
A six-run seventh inning for the Braves bolstered their lead to 14-3 after another 3-run homer by Czech.
Luke Burton (Davidson) pitched a scoreless final 1.1 innings for the Tom Sox out of the bullpen.
Charlottesville had one last rally attempt in the ninth inning, scoring three runs off of a two-run double by Kirby McMullen (Florida), and a fielding error by the Braves later scored McMullen.
