CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.– The Charlottesville Tom Sox defeated the Staunton Braves 3-2 on a walk-off walk in the bottom of the ninth inning at C-VILLE Weekly Ballpark Tuesday night.
The Braves struck first in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
The Tom Sox responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning off of an RBI double by Trey McDyre (Liberty) that scored Kirby McMullen (Florida) to tie the game at 1-1.
Joe Sprake (Elon) came on to relieve Jacob Haney (William & Mary) in the top of the third inning and inherited a bases loaded situation with two outs. Sprake struck out the Staunton batter to get out of the jam. Sprake gave the Tom Sox 3.1 innings of scoreless work out of the bullpen.
Antonio Balducci (Richmond) relieved Sprake and provided 2.1 innings of work with four strikeouts and only gave up one run.
Staunton took a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth inning off of a balk by the Tom Sox.
Charlottesville had the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, and a wild-pitch scored Tom Sox pinch runner Cayman Richardson (Virginia) to tie the game at 2-2. With the bases loaded again later in the inning, Brock Edge (Florida) walked to score Walker Imwalle (Davidson) and to seal the win for the Tom Sox.
