Recap

By Libby Davidson

Covington, Va. –  The Tom Sox defeated the Covington Lumberjacks 12-2 to start a two game winning streak.

After a scoreless first two innings at Casey Field, the Tom Sox began to stir things up in the top of the third. Brock Edge’s (Florida) fielder’s choice brought a runner home and your Tom Sox captured the early lead 1-0.

Charlottesville native Jacob Haney (William & Mary) had his most productive start of the season on the mound. He started off strong and retired the first three Lumberjack batters in the first. He kept the ball rolling through the third and pitched three straight scoreless innings.

Unfortunately, a double play in the fourth inning left a couple of the Tom Sox stranded on base. Following this play, the Lumberjacks took the lead with 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Tom Sox answered with six runs in the top of the fifth. Christian Hlinka’s (Virginia) RBI single scored Luke Coker (Elon) and started the Tom Sox scoring stretch. Edge backed this up with his second RBI of the night. Cayman Richardson (Virginia) walked and the bases were loaded with Walker Imwalle (Davidson) on his way to bat. Imwalle brought everyone home with a grand slam, giving your Tom Sox a 7-2 lead. Imwalle’s home run marked the third straight game the Tom Sox hit a home run at Casey Field.

The Tom Sox tacked on a couple more runs in the sixth inning. Christian Hlinka hit a two-run home run, making the Tom Sox lead 9-2.

Imwalle scored another RBI after a fielder’s choice in the top of the eighth, and the Tom Sox broke into double digits with a 10-2 lead. Shortly after, Joe Sprake (Elon) pitched a third straight scoreless inning.

In the ninth inning, Edge had his third hit and fourth RBI of the night. His final 2-RBI single brought the Tom Sox lead to 12-2.

Your Tom Sox have had five home runs in the last two days and look to add to this in tomorrow’s home game vs. the Woodstock River Bandits at 7pm. Come out and enjoy our yearly Bark in the Park Fundraiser! There will be plenty of dogs to pet and adopt.
