NEW MARKET, Va. – The Charlottesville Tom Sox fell on Wednesday night to the New Market Rebels, 6-4.
The game began slowly with a scoreless first inning.
The Rebels got the ball rolling in the bottom of the second inning and into the third, scoring the first two runs of the game.
In typical fashion, Cayman Richardson (Virginia) came out strong with the first hit of the night for the Tom Sox. Shortly thereafter, Trey McDyre (Liberty) grounded into a fielder’s choice and Richardson scored. Brock Edge (Florida) came in with an RBI single in his second game as a Tom Sox player to tie up the game 2-2.
The Tom Sox saw their first lead of the night at the top of the sixth after Dan Harwood’s (Wooster) RBI single, bringing the score to 3-2. The Rebels fought back to score three runs in the bottom of the inning.
The eighth inning looked to be off to a great start after Brian Owens (CNU) pitched a scoreless seventh inning and Richardson’s amazing diving catch. Unfortunately, two runners were left stranded on base in the top of the eighth. Missed opportunities, like that, seemed to be a pattern tonight.
Luke Coker’s RBI single in the ninth inning came at an important time, but it was not enough for your Tom Sox. The Rebels took the game with a final score of 6-4.
The team looks to bounce back in tomorrow’s home game vs. the Waynesboro Generals at 7pm!
