CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Charlottesville fell 11-5 in a third consecutive loss to Waynesboro, bringing the series to 3-2 in favor of the Generals.
The Tom Sox struck first with RBIs from Trey McDyre (Liberty) and Christian Hlinka (Virginia) in the bottom of the first. The Generals answered with back-to-back one-run innings in the second and third. Thomas Francisco (East Carolina) regained the lead for the Tom Sox with an RBI single to bring in Cayman Richardson (Virginia).
From there, the Generals gained control of the game, bringing in five runs in the fifth inning and four more in the seventh. The Generals took advantage of several Tom Sox miscues to jump ahead 11-3.
Following four consecutive scoreless innings, the Tom Sox found their offense in the bottom of the seventh, putting runners in scoring position and bringing in Francisco (wild pitch) and McDyre (error). Despite putting runners on base in the bottom of the ninth, the Tom Sox ultimately fell 11-5.
Despite the loss, Richardson, Hlinka, and Francisco continued their recent success at the plate each tallying two hits on the night. Additionally, Francisco brought his hit streak to 13 games.
Ethan Sund (North Park) pitched 3.2 solid innings holding the Generals to one earned run in his Tom Sox debut. Sam Crawford (Georgia Tech) also had a productive night, throwing three strikeouts and yielding no earned runs through 1.2 innings.
The Tom Sox will be back in action on Tuesday night at home against the Harrisonburg Turks. Tuesday’s game will be the team’s annual Bark in the Park promotion.
