CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – In a game defined by defense, the Tom Sox rallied late to put the Generals away in the top of the ninth.
Ramon Garza (Cornell) got the night started for the Tom Sox in the bottom of the first with a run off an RBI from Kevin Madden (Virginia Tech). The second run of the night came moments later from Cayman Richardson (Virginia) due to an error from the Generals’ pitcher.
Two more runs for the Tom Sox came in the third from Madden and Cole McNamee(Wake Forest). Then, the Generals’ defense heated up, holding the Tom Sox scoreless for the next four innings. The Generals saw their first runs of the night with a pair in the top of the eighth to pull within two before the Tom Sox blew the game open with three runs in the bottom of the eighth from Madden, McNamee, and Dan Harwood (Wooster). A bunt from McNamee led to loaded bases before a 2-run double from Michael Nickles(Randolph-Macon).
With this win, the Tom Sox move to 5-1 and remain on top of the Southern Division. They will be back in action Sunday night at Covington.
