Tom Sox Continue Best Start in Team History with 11-3 Win over Staunton

BY NICK GROSSMAN

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Charlottesville Tom Sox (6-1) defeated the Staunton Braves (5-3) 11-3 at C-VILLE Weekly Ballpark.  This is best seven game start in franchise history for the Tom Sox.

Staunton jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage in the second inning off of a two-RBI triple by Ryan McCarty (Penn. St. Abington).

Charlottesville trimmed the Staunton lead to 2-1 in the third inning after an RBI double by Cayman Richardson (Virginia) scored Gregory Ryan (Pittsburgh).

Hot hitting sparked a seven run offensive explosion by the Tom Sox in the fourth inning.  Walker Imwalle (Davidson) got the party started for Charlottesville with an RBI double that tied the game at 2-2.  Richardson kept the momentum going for the Tom Sox with a two-run home run to center to make the game 8-2.

Charlottesville outhit Staunton 13-5 on the night.

After giving up two early runs in the second inning, Michael Zubovich (Randolph-Macon) settled in for the Tom Sox and did not give up any more runs in his four innings of work on the night.

Charlottesville received great pitching from their relievers, a common theme of the young season. Oluwasayo Kintunde (Towson) came in to relieve Zubovich and only gave up one run in three innings pitched.  Antonio Balducci (Richmond) then came in for the Tom Sox to finish the Braves off and provided two scoreless innings.

The Tom Sox head to Front Royal tomorrow to take on the Cardinals with first pitch at 7:00 P.M.
