Leading Off

The Tom Sox and Rebels meet for the first time this season, and first since the Rebels defeated the ‘Sox in the 2018 VBL Championship.

The Tom Sox are coming off of their second loss of the season, a walk-off loss at Front Royal last night.

Jacob Haney was shaken up early, going 3 innings and allowing four runs. Joe Sprake shut down the Cards in relief, throwing four shutout innings, but Front Royal singled off closer Brian Owens to win it.

Fast Start

The Tom Sox are tied for their best start in team history, beginning the season going 6-2 in their first eight games. In 2017, the VBL Championship-winning team also went 6-2.

Run Support

Charlottesville pitchers have allowed only 39 runs this season, with runners scoring 75 to face that – run support, to say the least. The 75 runs scored through eight games are the most in team history, besting 2017’s 62 runs.

Kings of the Big Inning

Of Charlottesville’s 75 total runs this season, 50 of them (67%) have come in innings with 3 or more runs scored. In comparison, of opponent’s 39 runs scored, only nine (23%) have come in 3+run innings – one three spot in each of the first two games and a three spot last night.

Leading the League

Charlottesville leads the VBL in batting average with a .325 clip, an incredible 37 points above the next-closest team (Staunton, .288). The ‘Sox also lead in walks (55), OBP (.463), SLG% (.467), and opponent BA (.218).
